Overhyped movies that failed to meet public expectations

Movies are known as one of the most outstanding arts of the modern age. All rolled into one - beautiful visuals, gorgeous music, thought-provoking stories, parables on morality, commentaries on society, and insights into history, to name a few. Well, this is quite fair to understand the interest of movie buffs.

Even though the internet has created all-new opportunities for filmmakers to spread the word about their new releases, positive word of mouth from your close friends or anyone makes you more interested in watching any movie. Hence, the expectation would also be at the highest level. When you are a die-heart fan of any particular actor or director promoting their film with all your interest, it doesn’t come up to the mark. It hurts.

Therefore, today, we will discuss long-waited movies marketed and promoted like anything but eventually disappointed the viewers. Let’s begin the list with the latest highly promoted and equally disappointing Bollywood movie.

Brahmastra

Brahmastra

Indeed, the most heavily-promoted Bollywood movie of the year, Brahmastra, as of now. Along with one of the most sensational Bollywood couples of the time, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, the movie featured Bollywood biggies, such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy. Still, it fell short of satisfying the netizens amid a spate of negative reviews and reports of empty theatres. Even though the movie excels at the box office, the viewers call it an ‘epic disappointment.’

Shamshera

With an eye-catching budget, all eyes were on this long-awaited action spectacle as many were pinning their hopes on some much-required spark at the box office. But Ranbir's foray into action hero territory seems to have bitten the dust, with very few takers. Set in 1871, during the British rule of India, Ranbir plays a Robin Hood-style warrior who leads his tribe to freedom. More or less, it was an outdated script with a predictable story.

Laal Singh Chaddha

Laal Singh Chaddha

The public had great expectations from Laal Singh Chaddha because of two reasons. One, stared Aamir Khan, and another is the official remake of Forrest Gump. As Aamir Khan is known for his Perfectionism, and his movies are never lesser than any festival for his fan. Forrest Gump already has admirers. But Laal Singh Chaddha failed miserably, and how it tanked at the box office is rather disheartening.

Samrat Prithviraj

Samrat Prithviraj

The audience often admires historical films. It allows directors to play up present-day beliefs while evoking past legends. But Samrat Prithviraj couldn’t come on the same scale. The expectation was triggered because of Yash Raj Films and stars like Akshay Kumar and Miss World 2017 Manuli Chillar. But alas, this big-budget historical film, based on the life of Rajput king Prithviraj Chauhan, failed to bring audiences to the theatres or please critics.

Radhe Shyam

Radhe Shyam

The presence of Prabhas was enough to gather a pan-Indian audience for the movie. After Bhahuballi, Prabhas won the heart of the country. The promo materials, the songs, and the trailer had managed to get the audience hyped up enough. The audience loved the chemistry of the leading lady, Pooja Hegde, with Prabhas in the movie, but the screenplay and narration had not pleased them.
